Villa Matetic, San Antonio

Vines were among the first crops planted after the Spanish Conquest in the sixteenth century. Prosperity in the nineteenth century led to the arrival of French and German grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon is now the most common red grape in Chile by volume, with Syrah and Merlot following. Chardonnay is the most popular Chilean white wine.

The vineyards of the Matetic family are in Chile's Central Valley between Santiago and Valparaíso. The Mediterranean like climate makes it the main wine producing and agricultural region of Chile.
